Honouring Feb.21

It was hot and humid with the sun at our face; We had to wait in long queues; We perspired a lot but, nontheless, even oceans of our sweat would fade in comparison to the sacrifices our freedom fighters made, on that day, with their blood!

A Seminar on Autism conducted by H2O for the Doctors and Teachers of HFRCMC!

Everything was going well, with the Head of Staff of SWAC explaining the various signs and symptoms of autistic children, the crowd was good, everyone were attentively listening. It was only the lack of sound, due to technical difficulties (and the short time we had in arranging all this!) when it came to viewing an autistic film that we had procured, that sorely had us disappointed. I had to talk all the way to try and get people to understand the various scenes and clips of the short film. We did our best to give them a picture of autism and autistic children more visually, and being our first time arranging such a huge seminar with only a day to spare... I guess we did ok!

A Film Festival to raise funds for autistic children at HFRCMC

We weren't able to raise much, but all the funds were, albeit small, were gracefully received by the Society for the Welfare of the Autistic Children (SWAC). That made our day...

The story of Zareen......

Thats the little girl chewing her pinky. She survived great odds to live, with her mother trying to abort her and all. Unfortunately, her life came with a price. Moderate mental retardation, with some features of autism! But she takes it all in her stride, overcomes and even inspires us with her sweet innocent smile! God bless her...

pics at Manikganj...

This was one of the many pics taken by Khokon chachu (uncle) during our distribution process. Starting from extreme back, at top-left corner of the picture, is a guy wearing a striped red shirt - thats Ripon overlooking the materials to be distributed. Just slightly in front of him, towards the left is Shaon - keeping count of how much is being distributed. In the middle of the picture, there is a girl with a red shawl wearing a red dress - thats Poni, giving out the water purifier tablets individually. Just behind her, to the right is a guy wearing a white shirt and blue jeans - thats Fayek, in charge of overlooking our essential medicine package. Behind and to the left, is Genia - the girl whose face isn't visible due to her blue shawl, responsible for helping me out pass the relief package as well as individual ORS packets. And finally, as you may have guessed, the eerie guy with glasses and messed up hair, wearing a white shirt, right to the left of Genia, is me. I'll be putting up more pics (it takes forever to upload given my sleazy dial-up but I'll get it done :D) if time allows. In the meantime, 2morrow I'll mentioning about another project we did before this one and the obstacles to overcome. Until then, take it easy....

Our First Major Project!

Today we distributed 500 packets of rice, molasses, biscuit, ORS, and halogen tablets to the flood victims of one of Manikganj district's most flood-filled areas named (with reference to the floods that are frequent there) as Bonna Bijuri, under Manikganj Sadar Upazila (subdistrict). The demands of the villagers eventually exceeded our supply and were left with only ORS packets and halo tabs, which we had aplenty of, by the way!

The pics will be up soon but the experience, I can tell ya, was pretty amazing - being the first for me as well as for my friends who accompanied me in this blessed venture! Here is the list of names of those great men and women, who even went up against the administrant hierarchy of our college (which would have delayed us further!) and risked their lives, without life jackets or senior guidance, only to see to it that the aid reaches our intended target in due time:

1. Eshan (Our Inspiration, the most active member of of H2O, being its founder!)
2. Poni (Sweet and strict, very responsible, being our treasurer!)
3. Genia (A Superwoman, as she is known, as she is INDEED!)
3. Shaon (Our one source for laughter and relief, indispensable!)
4. Fayek (serious, composed and a huge help!)
5. Ripon (the most happiest strong man I have ever seen, incredibly charitable!)
6. Adnan (A down-to-earth guy who smiles like an angel, we needed him!)
7. Mitto bhai (loved him, we couldn't have done it with him!)
8. me. (very happy right now!)

I can't see the future but something tells me this is just the tip of the iceberg! Our adventures are just beginning....

Stay tuned
